Virginia Couple Arrested Near Trump Rally With Gun

A Virginia couple has been arrested for carrying a pistol, 200 rounds of ammunition, a pitchfork, shovels and a backpack not far from where President Donald Trump was holding a political rally in Ohio.

John C. Davison, 38, and Vicki M. Davison, 33, of Virginia Beach were taken into custody Monday after being spotted walking along the railroad tracks behind the Toledo Executive Airport in Lake Township by an airport employee.

They both were charged with making terrorist threats, carrying a concealed weapon, inducing panic and criminal trespassing.

The arrests involved the Secret Service and FBI since Trump was holding a rally at the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport about 20 miles away. The executive airport is a “relief airport” for the express airport, the New York Post reported.

Pence’s Plane Doubles Back to NH After Possible Bird Hit

Vice President Mike Pence’s plane was forced to return to a Manchester, New Hampshire, airport on Tuesday due to an engine issue, Fox News reported.

Local TV station WMUR, citing unnamed sources, said the cause of the engine problem on Air Force Two might have been a bird strike.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

Walmart Scraps 1-Way Aisles That Shoppers Mostly Ignored

Walmart Inc. is removing the one-way aisles it had imposed in its stores at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, a move likely to be welcomed by customers who largely ignored the rule anyway.

The nation’s biggest retailer said it would resume two-way shopping in all of its 4,753 U.S. stores at the beginning of October and also reopen some additional store entrances that had been closed temporarily to help control the flow of customer traffic.

Walmart (WMT) will keep in place other safety measures like plastic shields at registers, requiring customers to wear masks and spraying shopping carts after each use.

“Customers have adopted new behaviors and take serious their personal responsibility to wear masks, practice social distancing and use our expanded hours to better spread traffic ...

Ex-NSC Official Fiona Hill: US Seen as ‘Object of Pity’

Fiona Hill, former Russia adviser on the National Security Council who testified at President Donald Trump’s impeachment hearings, said Tuesday the United States is increasingly seen as an “object of pity” around the world.

Hill was part of a Citizen by CNN 2020 conference. She told CNN’s Jim Sciutto that America’s handling of the coronavirus crisis as well as divisions on race and politics have hurt the country’s standing.

“We are increasingly seen as an object of pity, including by our allies, because they are so shocked by what’s happening internally, how we’re eating ourselves alive with our divisions,” Hill said. “We’re the ones who are creating all this. It’s not the Russians or the Chinese or anyone else. We are doing this to ourselves.”

When asked whether the United States is sti...

Report: Trump to Meet SCOTUS Candidate Lagoa on Friday

President Donald Trump plans to meet Supreme Court candidate Barbara Lagoa on Friday when he visits Florida — just one day before he is set to announce his pick to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Axios reports.

Trump is still expected to name Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the seat left open by the death of Ginsburg last Friday. But Axios reported sources said the Trump-Lagoa meeting could be a “wild card” because she has a “charismatic personality that would appeal to Trump.”

Barrett would be easier to confirm, members of Trump’s inner circle, tell Axios, because senators are more familiar with her. They would have to spend time educating themselves on Lagoa.

Lagoa, 52, is the daughter of Cuban exiles and serves as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit...

Marc Short: Ex-Pence Aide’s Claims Are ‘Factually Incorrect’

Marc Short, chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, ripped former Pence aide Olivia Troye for how she portrayed President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response during a recent interview.

Troye, who served as an adviser to Pence on the coronavirus task force, told “NBC Nightly News” that Trump isn’t “actually looking out for” Americans when it comes to his coronavirus response. She claimed Trump is more focused on “public image” and “his personal agenda” than protecting Americans.

During a Tuesday appearance on “MSNBC Live with Hallie Jackson,” Short called her statements “factually incorrect.”

“She’s not somebody who expressed any of these misgivings during her time here,” Short said of the former aide, who left her role at the White House in July...

Homes Sales Rise 2.4%, Hit Highest Level Since 2006

U.S. home sales surged to their highest level in nearly 14 years in August as the housing market continued to outperform the overall economy, but record high home prices could squeeze first-time buyers out of the market.

The report from the National Association of Realtors confirmed home sales had recovered after slumping when the economy almost ground to a halt as businesses were shuttered in mid-March in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Demand for housing is being fueled by record-low mortgage rates and a pandemic-fueled migration to suburbs and low-density areas in search of more spacious accommodation as many people work from home...

ISIS ‘Beatles’ to Stand Trial in US After Court Ruling

Two men accused of being members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria are set to stand trial in the United States after a British court ruled against their argument that the United Kingdom could not provide evidence against them, the Independent reports.

Former British citizens El Shafee Elsheikh and Alexanda Kotey are accused of being members of a militia group known as “The Beatles,” called that because of their British accents, who executed multiple Western captives. Elsheikh and Kotey were both raised in the U.K. but have had their British citizenship revoked. They are accused of taking part in the killing of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, as well as British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning...

Critic of Chinese Leader Sentenced to 18 Years in Graft Case

The former chairman of a state-owned real estate company who publicly criticized President Xi Jinping’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Tuesday on corruption charges, a court announced.

Ren Zhiqiang, who became known for speaking up about censorship and other sensitive topics, disappeared from public view in March after publishing an essay online that accused Xi of mishandling the outbreak that began in December in the central city of Wuhan.

Xi, party leader since 2012, has suppressed criticism, tightened censorship and cracked down on unofficial organizations. Dozens of journalists, labor and human rights activists and others have been imprisoned.

Ren, 69, was convicted of corruption, bribery, embezzlement of public funds and abuse of power,...
